Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has emerged as a surprise target for mega rich Russian side, Zenit St Petersburg.
The Zenit owners are unhappy with current manager Luciano Spalletti according to the Daily Mirror. Despite spending £64m in the summer they are only third in the Russian League, eight points behind leaders, CSKA Moskow.
They have lost three of their last four games in all competitions including a 3-1 away defeat against Liverpool in the Europa League, although Zenit did go through to the next round thanks to their away goal.
Mancini has had to deal with speculation about his future virtually all season with the British media seemingly desperate to undermine him. Big name bosses such as Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti have all been linked with his job.
He has dealt with the pressure well and always maintained that he will still be in charge at City next season. He signed a five year contract extension as recently as last summer.
However, today’s Mirror reports that Zenit would be willing to pursue Mancini despite his long term contract at the Eastlands club.
