United defender heading for AC Milan?

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic could be on his way out of Old Trafford at the end of the season with AC Milan closely monitoring his situation according to the Metro.

The Serbian defender has been at United since 2006 and has been a key figure as the club won several major trophies in that time including the Champions League.

However the last couple of years have been difficult for the 31-year-old as he has suffered a number of injuries that have limited his playing time. He has only played 20 league games since summer 2011 and only 18 of United’s 44 matches in all competitions this season.

Sir Alex looking to the future

Sir Alex Ferguson is looking for younger players to step up and take on the role that has been filled so well be Vidic and Rio Ferdinand for so many years.

Jonny Evans has been one of United’s most improved players over the last couple of years and has become a first team regular. United also have promising young players like Chris Smalling and Phil Jones who are raring to make the shirt their own.

Milan leaking goals in Serie A

Milan have conceded 13 more goals than table toppers, Juventus in 29 games. It is the main reason they find themselves 11 points behind the Turin club and they will look to tighten up their defence in the summer.

They sold Brazilian defender Thiago Silva to Paris Saint Germain last summer and have struggled to replace him. They believe they will be able to sign Vidic at a relatively reasonable price for a player of his quality as he is entering the final year of his contract.
