Manchester United and Liverpool are set to go head to head for the signature of Columbian striker Jackson Martinez.
TalkSPORT reveal that the North West rivals are both ready to make a bid for the FC Porto star and will also face stiff competition from Turkish champions Galatasaray.
Martinez only arrived in Europe at the start of the season having spent all of his early career in Columbia and Mexico. However the 26-year-old has taken to European football like a duck to water scoring 22 goals in 23 league games and three goals in six Champions League matches.
Attracted attention all over Europe
His performances have attracted the attention of United and Liverpool as well as mega rich European clubs like Galatasaray and Anzhi Makhachkala.
Galatasaray have emerged as a serious force over the last couple of years. They are set to win their second domestic title in a row and are able to attract world class players like Didier Drogba and Wesley Sneijder.
They reached the quarter finals of this seasons Champions League, losing out to Real Madrid despite winning 3-2 in the home leg.
He could end up in the North West
However, much will depend on how serious United are. If the Old Trafford club make signing Martinez a priority then he will be likely to head to Manchester.
Liverpool could also be in with a shout. They may not be able to offer Champions League football next season but Rodgers’ plans are starting to bear fruit. Martinez may decide there will be more first team opportunities at Anfield, which will be important especially with the World Cup at the end of next season.
