Manchester City fans finally have something to cheer about as it looks as though all action midfielder Yaya Toure will be staying at the club.
The Sun report that the Ivory Coast star has opened talks with City about a new contract and is expected to sign a new four year deal worth £220k a week.
There had been fears that the midfielder may leave the club after it was revealed that he had been waiting six months to discuss his new contract. His agent claimed that the club were deliberately stalling and gave them four days to open talks or he would start looking for a new club for the player.
Europe’s top clubs were on red alert
It put Toure in a strong bargaining position as there was no shortage of clubs that would have taken him on. Chelsea, Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain were instantly linked with a move for the player. Some tabloid mischief makers even suggested he could move across the city to Old Trafford.
All of that talk jolted City into action and they have put together a package that is likely to see Toure commit his future to the club.
It will come as a big relief to City fans as there have been numerous reports in recent weeks linking top players such as Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and Carols Tevez with moves away from the club.
With Toure looking like staying, if City can add a couple of quality new players to the squad they will be likely to put up a stronger challenge for the title next season.
