John Terry has emerged as a shock summer target for Turkish side Fenerbahçe. The 32 year old has spent his entire career at Chelsea. He has only one year remaining on his current contract and may be tempted by a move away from the Premier League say the Mail.
The England centre back has led Chelsea through their most successful period in the club’s history over the last ten years but may now be ready for a new challenge.
None of the old guard left at the Bridge
Chelsea are now a different side to the one that Terry led to trophy after trophy. There are few of the so called old-guard left. Didier Drogba left last summer and it seems highly likely that Frank Lampard will be heading for the exit door this summer.
Terry is no longer guaranteed a first choice place in the Chelsea eleven with Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic being preferred by interim boss Rafa Benitez recently.
A host of former Prem stars
Fenerbahçe are currently second in the Turkish league to Istanbul rivals, Galatasaray. There has been a recent push by the big clubs in Turkey to sign superstar players.
Galatasaray recently signed Terry’s former Chelsea team mate Didier Drogba and Dutch star Wesley Sneijder. Fenerbahçe have former Premier League players Joseph Yobo, Raul Meireles and Dirk Kuyt in their current squad.
With Galatasaray in the quarter finals of the Champions League, Turkish football is currently on the rise and being a part of it may appeal to Terry in what will be the final chapter of his career.
