Bayern Munich are ready to offer Luis Suarez an escape from Anfield as they have given up the chase for Robert Lewandowski.
The German giants wanted to take Borussia Dortmund forward Lewandowski in the summer and thought they were in the box seat to land the Pole.
However his superb four goal display against Real Madrid in the Champions League last week has made him one of the top properties in European football.
Fergie keen on Lewandowski
Alex Ferguson is keen on signing him and the player is thought to be set on a move to Man Utd.
In a report in the Metro Lewandowski’s agent is quoted saying: “I can tell you only one thing – Robert is interested in the future coming to the Premier League, the Premier League is very interesting for Robert.”
So Bayern have moved their attention to Suarez who they see as a more than adequate alternative. Suarez has been one of the outstanding players in this season’s Premier League and Liverpool knew they would face a battle to hold on to him.
The fact they can’t offer Suarez Champions League football next season always puts them in a vulnerable position when dealing with bids from other clubs.
Liverpool may be tempted to sell
Suarez has been at Anfield since 2011 and was a big favourite with the fans. That was until his infamous bite on Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic a fortnight ago.
Suarez was handed a ten game ban by the FA and some of his own fans have turned on him for damaging the reputation of their famous club.
The Uruguayan may well jump at the chance to escape England after facing heavy criticism from the media. Liverpool must be tempted to sell Suarez, despite his undoubted class on the pitch.
He has been surrounded by controversy his whole career and it might be a good move all round for Liverpool to cash in and wipe the slate clean for next season.
