Rumours persist about the Special One’s Chelsea return

The possibility of a return to Stamford Bridge for Jose Mourinho seems very much alive with the Real Madrid boss looking almost certain to quit the Bernabeu this summer.

For the last few days the newspapers and TV sports channels have been full of speculation that the Special One could be returning to the West London club.

It looks like the story could run and run with today’s papers showing no sign of letting it lie. The Daily Express say that while Mourinho was at Stamford Bridge to watch the international match between Brazil and Russia on Monday he spoke of his love for London and his old club.

He said:” I can’t deny in spite of this disgraceful weather I love it here, I have massive emotional connections with Chelsea.”

Provisional agreement with Abramovic

According to a report in today’s Metro, the Portuguese boss has already made a provisional agreement with Chelsea owner Roman Abrabovic. As long as Chelsea finish in the top four and reach the Champions League, Mourinho is likely to sign as three year deal with the club.

There are a couple of obstacles that might potentially scupper the move but nothing Abramovic couldn’t handle if he is serious about bringing his former manager back.

Firstly, Mourinho is concerned about the presence of technical director Michael Emenalo and chief executive Ron Gourlay anbd would need assurances that they would not interfere in team affairs.

Mourinho prefers London to Paris

Secondly, Paris Saint Germain could make a bid to bring him to the French League and apparently have a similar agreement with Mourinho in place.

However, at this stage in his career, Mourinho is thought to prefer a return to the already well established Premier League and would like to move back to London.

He said: “I’m in London – we have a house here, we love it here, our daughter is coming to study in London. So being in London has to be seen as a very normal thing for us.”
