Real Madrid are ready to offer Man City Gonzalo Higuain or Karim Benzema plus cash for their Argentine forward Sergio Aguero. Florentino Perez, Real’s club president, has made Aguero his number one transfer target this summer according to the Star.
He fears Cristiano Ronaldo may leave the Bernabéu this summer for a second spell at Old Trafford and needs a major signing to keep the fans on his side with the presidential elections next year.
Real always wanted Aguero
Real were interested in Aguero when he joined City but had little chance of signing him then as he was playing for their local rivals Atletico Madrid.
They have remained admirers of the player though, and are prepared to let City take their pick of either Higuain or Benzema to make the deal more appealing.
Aguero has not been in the same goalscoring form this season as he was last, when he famously scored the goal that clinched the title for the Sky Blues on the final day of the season.
The Argentine’s marriage has recently broken down and a return to Madrid, where his wife and son are based, would appeal to Aguero.
Too good to turn down?
Although City don’t want to lose Aguero, the terms of this offer may be too good to turn down, especially with the player struggling to find his best form. Both Higuain and Benzema are top class centre forwards, and certainly capable of scoring goals in the Premier League.
With the financial Fair Play Laws looming ever closer, the chance to regain some of the £38m they paid out for Aguero, plus receive a ready-made replacement, looks like good business for City.
