Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is already making plans for next season at Chelsea and has put Hulk at the top of his wish list.
The Daily Star report that Mourinho will be in the Stamford Bridge hot seat nest season after encouraging talks have taken place between his agent Jorge Mendes, and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.
It is believed that Abramovic is prepared to pay whatever it takes to bring his former manager back and will match the £12m a year salary he is paid at Real. He will also give the Portuguese boss total freedom to build his team without interference.
Mourinho has identified Hulk as the man to lead the line for the Blues when he takes over. He sees the Brazilian as a strong physical presence who can have a similar impact as Didier Drogba had at the club.
Hulk had years of success at Porto
The 26-year-old made his name in Europe at FC Porto where he scored 54 goals in 99 games and won several trophies including the Europa League under Mourinho’s former assistant coach, Andre Villas Boas.
He moved to Zenit St Petersberg last summer for a fee of €60 despite strong rumours that he would be joining Chelsea. He has scored eight goals in 24 games for Zenit and made five assists but his time in Russia has been marred by racist abuse.
Zenit’s own fans targeted the striker, leaving a fake bomb at the club’s training ground with a note that said ‘Hulk Out’.
Hulk’s arrival at Stamford Bridge would be likely to spell the end of Fernando Torres’ Chelsea career. The Spanish striker has never looked consistently convincing since joining the Blues for £50m and will see little first team action if Hulk hits the ground running.
