Liverpool could make a move for Swansea target Iago Aspas in the summer as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his attacking options.
The Daily Express report that Swansea had wanted to bring Aspas and Romelu Lukaku to the club to share the goal scoring duties with bargain of the season Michu.
However, Rodgers is also interested in Aspas and he believes the Spaniard could be a hit at Anfield. Liverpool are desperate for attacking cover as top goal scorer Luis Suarez will be suspended for the first ten games of next season after he bit Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.
Rodgers has made some shrewd signings
Rodgers was let down a little in the transfer market last season when Liverpool allowed Andy Carroll to join West Ham on loan and failed to replace him. However, he made some shrewd moves in January with the signings of Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho.
Both players have had a positive impact on the team as Rodgers is slowly but surely seeing his vision start to take shape. He can’t spend big money without Champions League funding but Liverpool’s form in the second half of last season will give their fans hope for the future.
Aspas may be available at a cut price deal
They will be able to sign Aspas at a cut price deal if his club Celta Vigo are relegated from La Liga. That seems highly probable as they are bottom of the table and four points from safety with just two games to play.
The 25-year-old has come through the ranks at Celta and become a key player over the last couple of years. He scored 23 goals in 35 games last season as his club were promoted from the Segunda Division. This season he has scored 11 goals in 32 games which is a reasonable return for his first season in the top flight and with a struggling team.
He may be a gamble but he is Rodgers’ type of player. He has good technique and composure and would give Liverpool a new dimension next season if they were to sign him. He is in the club’s price range and is likely to cost around £6m and the Express say Liverpool have already agreed a wage packet of around £45,000 per week with the player.
