Gareth Barry has told Liverpool that they have the perfect man to replace Jamie Carragher, both in the dressing room and on the pitch.
Kolo Toure will complete his move to Anfield as a free agent today and comes with an endorsement from his former City team-mate.
Speaking in the Liverpool Echo Barry said: “Losing Jamie Carragher’s experience from the dressing room will be a huge loss for Liverpool and the fans.
“But Kolo, with his experience and his work-rate, the way he goes about his training, will do a good job of replacing him.”
FA Cup and Premier League winner at two clubs
Toure leaves Man City after four years having lost his place in the first team over the past couple of seasons. He does leave though with an FA Cup winner’s medal and a Premier League winner’s medal, to go with the two FA Cups and one Premier League he won at Arsenal.
Toure was a mainstay in the Gunners defence as they famously went the entire league season unbeaten.
Potential new backline at Anfield
With the future of Martin Skrtel still up in the air, securing a player like Toure will settle some of the nerves about Liverpool’s potential backline as the new season approaches.
Barry also added: ““Kolo will be a great signing (for Liverpool). He will always give 100 per cent, he will never give up. Kolo will win over the fans straight away.”
The Liverpool fans will hope that Barry is right and that Toure can still perform at the highest level. He’s only 32 and with his vast experience of winning major trophies at two different clubs in England, it looks like Brendan Rodgers has picked another gem from the transfer market, and on a free aswell.
