David Moyes could be heading to Germany for a new challenge at the end of the season as his name is at the top of Schalke’s wanted list.
The Everton boss is out of contract at the end of the season and he intends to wait to see what his options are before making any decision about his future.
The Daily Mail report that Moyes is keen to hear what the Bundesliga club have to offer. He has spent 11 years at Goodison Park but is yet to add a trophy to the cabinet.
Moyes has transformed Everton’s fortunes
Although he hasn’t won a trophy, it is universally acknowledged that he has done a fine job during his time in charge. He has turned Everton from relegation battlers to European contenders and his teams have played some very attractive football over the years.
However, there is a growing feeling that without serious investment, Moyes has taken the club as far as he can.
Schalke could be in interesting project for Moyes if he chooses to leave the Premier League. They sacked their manager, Hubb Stevens despite finishing 3rd in the last season and topping their Champions League group ahead of Arsenal this campaign.
Fight for a Champions League place
Jens Keller took over from Stevens but Schalke are looking for a permanent replacement at the end of the season. Like Everton, they are in a race for their league’s final Champions League place. Schalke are currently in pole position in 4th place. However, it is an interesting race with only five points separating the 4th and 10th placed teams with seven games left.
While it may be hard for Everton fans to think about Moyes leaving it is worth pointing out that he has transformed the fortunes of the club and turned them into a very appealing proposition for many up and coming managers.
Bosses such as Roberto Martinez and Neil Lennon have been linked with the club and both fit the description as young, talented and ambitious. Just as Moyes was 11 years ago.
