Manchester City could make a surprise move for former United youngster Ravel Morrison in the summer.
According to the Daily Mirror the 20-year-old has caught City’s attention after a string of quality displays for Championship side Birmingham City.
Morrison is on loan at Birmingham from West Ham. The Blues have struggled for form this season and had been at risk of being sucked into the Championship relegation battle. However, a recent run of 14 points from their last seven games has steered them into mid table security.
Key part in Birmingham’s recent good form
Morrison’s attitude at the start of the season had Birmingham boss Lee Clark considering sending him back to East London early. However, the midfielder has knuckled down and been a key part of that recent run. He has featured in every game and scored in the 4-0 away win over promotion contenders Crystal Palace.
While Morrison was at Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson described him as one of the most promising youngsters he had ever seen. However, Ferguson was concerned about the player’s attitude as he reportedly didn’t always turn up to training.
City impressed with Morrison
Morrison also got into trouble with the authorities and was charged with two counts of intimidating a witness. Ferguson eventually lost patience and sold Morrison to West Ham after turning down a bid from Newcastle.
He has so far been unable to break into Hammers’ first team so boss Sam Allardyce sent him to Birmingham City to gain experience. Manchester City have been impressed and have made discreet enquiries about the signing the star.
The Mirror claim City are keen to sign young British talent to play alongside their foreign superstars.
