There are concerns among the Arsenal camp that they may end up losing out on the signings of their major transfer targets to big spending European rivals.
The Daily Star point out that despite talking big over the amount of money they had to spend and the calibre of player they intended to bring in, so far nothing has been done.
Targets slipping through Arsenal’s fingers
The Gunners have been strongly linked with Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain and Manchester United star Wayne Rooney. They have made bids for both players but according to the Star, the two strikers are also being tracked by many of Europe’s elite clubs.
The deal to bring in Higuain was supposed to have been completed before the end of last weekend but as we move into July the transfer looks no closer to going through.
Rooney would prefer to join Chelsea
Rooney is thought to prefer a move to Chelsea if he can’t reach an understanding with new United boss David Moyes. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic will be prepared to pay big money for Rooney’s wages and transfer fee if he gets the nod from manager Jose Mourinho. Rooney is also being tracked by Barcelona PSG, and Monaco.
Meanwhile, the longer it takes for the Higuain deal to go through the less likely it seems that it will happen. Arsenal’s North London rivals Tottenham are said to be keeping tabs on the situation as are Italian champions Juventus.
Arsenal fans have heard it all before
Arsenal may still seem like the most likely destination for Higuain as Tottenham can’t offer Champions League football and Juve have just signed Carlos Tevez from Manchester City. However, alarm bells are ringing for Gunners fans who feel they have heard it all before when it comes to talk of signing A-list stars.
Chelsea favourites to sign wonderkid
Arsenal also look set to lose out to Chelsea for the signature of a more familiar type of target, 16-year-old wonderkid Isaiah Brown. The West Brom striker became the second youngest Premier League player when he made his debut against Wigan in May.
He has attracted the attention of Chelsea and Arsenal and the Star report that the Blues are favourites to sign the youngster.
