Chelsea have added another striker to their summer shopping list as they have met with representatives of Bayer Leverkusen star, Andre Schurrle.
The Daily Mirror report that Schurrle representatives were at Wembley to see Chelsea’s semi final defeat to Manchester City yesterday and are likely to start discussing personal terms with the club soon.
Chelsea only have two recognised out and out strikers in their senior squad and need to add firepower if they are to mount a serious challenge for major honours next season.
Fernando Torres has been a disappointment since his £50m move from Liverpool two years ago. He has scored 20 goals so far this season but only seven of those have come in the league and he has failed to look convincing in big games.
Chelsea need more firepower
Demba Ba has looked lively and shown flashes of brilliance since joining from Newcastle in January. However with only six goals in 17 games so far for the Blues he has not been prolific enough to be considered the main spearhead of Cheslea’s attack next season.
Schurrle has great technique and composure and at the tender age of 22, already has 22 German caps to his name. However, there may be doubts about his record in front of goal. He has scored 12 goals in 37 games for Leverkusen this season but has contributed several assists.
Chelsea see plenty of potential in Schurrle and are preparing a bid for the player. However, he is under contract until 2016 and with Leverkusen well placed to qualify for next season’s Champions League they are unlikely to let him leave for less than £20m.
