Former Southampton manager Nigel Adkins could be in line to take over at Championship side Leicester City, should they axe under fire boss Nigel Pearson.
A month ago, Foxes fans were hoping for an automatic promotion place but the mood has now darkened after Saturday’s defeat to East Midlands rivals Derby.
Just two points from their last five games have seen Leicester drop to sixth in the Championship and they are now under real pressure to stay in the play-off places.
Foxes have underachieved
Pearson is under real pressure to hold on to his job, after many feel he has underachieved with his expensively assembled squad. Leicester were among the bookies favourites to win the title before the season began.
Adkins is highly respected throughout the game and few could believe it when he was dismissed by Southampton after leading them to back-to-back promotions into the Premier League.
If Adkins does take charge at Leicester, he will have a unique opportunity to get promoted three seasons in a row, and into the Premier League for two consecutive seasons.
