Chelsea have been told they will have to pay £38m if they are to sign Nemanja Matic from Benfica.
The 20 year old Serbian has built a reputation of one of the best young players in Europe over the past couple of years.
It will come as a shock to Roman Abramovich after he saw Matic leave Stamford Bridge in 2011 as a makeweight in the deal that brought David Luiz to the club.
Benfica have made it clear to Chelsea that they won’t get their former player back on the cheap.
Abramovich usually delivers for his managers
But returning boss Jose Mourinho has told his chairman that he wants Matic in his side next season and Abramovich usually delivers the players his managers want.
Elsewhere at Chelsea, The Star report that David Luiz is considering his future. The defender/midfielder is currently in Brazil for the Confederations Cup but has attracted interest from Barcelona, PSG and Napoli.
Luiz finished the season in fine form
He finished last season in fine form after Rafa Benitez moved him into midfield and popped up with some important goals as Chelsea secured third spot and won the Europa League.
Luiz spoke about his future from his base in Brazil: “I talk about PSG and their project with my Brazil team-mates, the club has done a good job in Ligue 1 and they have some very good players, such as Lucas Moura, Thiago Motta, Maxwell and Thiago Silva.
“And that is just the Brazilians. There are more besides.”
Luiz will have showdown talks with Mourinho about his future when he returns from Brazil.
